STORY

The mad scientist and technological guru Dr Eggman has come up with a new invention to aid his pursuits of world domination. His machine, 'The Dreampool' is capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality. It is able to reconfigure, reconstruct create anything that Eggman desires. The heart of The Dreampool exists within an artifically created reality, which was developed using Eggman's knowlege of Special Stages and their properties (see the Jap Sonic 1 manual for details).

His discovery has also led him on to start the creation of next generation badniks labelled 'Type D'. Using the functions of the Dreampool, these enemies will be able to reconstruct and fix themselves at the atomic level if they are damaged. By doing this, even after Sonic or Tails destroy the enemy, it will be able to fix itself. However, at this stage in time the cosmic energy created by 'The Dreampool' cannot be focused and used.

After doing some research, Eggman learnt about an incident called the 'Genocide City'. An experiment by the city's scientists to create clean energy had overflowed, which sent shockwaves throughout the city destroying everything but the point of origin. Eggman thought. Perhaps the original device that was used was still intact? Such a machine would surely contain the elements needed to create an energy focusing device. With that thought in his mind, Eggman starts to make his way to the ruins of Genocide City to salvage the parts needed.
"Ha Ha Ha Ha! All I need is one small part and I can refashion the world in my own image! If Sonic even tries to stop me the Type D badniks will crush him with their might!"

Meanwhile, at their South Island headquarters, Sonic and Tails are taking a break when Tails notices readings from his Chaos Emerald tracker.
"What the hell! Sonic, the Chaos Emerald tracker is detecting readings that are not normal. The energy wave length is not that of a normal Emerald. It seems to be constantly changing. An energy wave of that proportion is dangerous. It could have bad effects on the surroundings."
"Yet again, it sounds like the work of Eggman," Sonic sighed.

"I've tracked the area where energy waves come from. However, I can't pin point the origin. It's almost like the energy waves are appearing out of nowhere. If this is Eggman, and he is fooling around with what I think he is, we should track down the Chao Emeralds again so that we are protected from whatever the possible effects of the waves are. Then we can try to get to the source."

"Good idea Tails. Let's Go!"

With that, Sonic and Tails head off.
