- Andy (Retired) (10-16-2001) ..I can't believe it.. I've screwed up so much in the past few days. I've been uploading the updates to the patcher to the wrong filename.. I'm losing it.. Please download it here one more time I'm so sorry... - Stealth (10-15-2001) - Stealth - Striker (10-14-2001) Kulock of The Moogle Cavern has offered to host the SFGHQ's new yaBB board, and it appears that it will turn out better there. I've updated the link in the messageboards section, however, the one within the SFGHQ is still unchanged at the moment. Incase you don't want to scroll all the way down, you can get to the new board here. Also, one last time on that IPS patcher. I added the excess-write protection because of the faulty patch I made for Sonic 2Z, which made me think that it would be a bad thing if the patch tried to write to addresses beyond where the original file ends. However, other perfectly fine patches do this, so I have disabled the "protection" in favor of supporting this functionality. It can now apply patches who's addresses are out of the clean file's boundaries (it just expands it). It can now also create patches like this, so everything can be stored in a single file, because I've found that SOME other patchers also support this. However, since some don't, the user is prompted to chose to put the data within the patch, or in an external file. Also, I've run into a couple of people today who have had trouble running it because it uses a call to DOS. This was a remanant of my old file system, where I would use "attrib" to de-write-protect any write-protected files so there wouldn't be an error upon re-write. Since this is pretty much unnecesary, I've deleted it, so there should be no more problem in running the program. - Stealth Sorry for the inconvenience! - Stealth Also, I have created a new IPS patcher, StealthPatch (for lack of a better name..) to ease the pain of applying the patches for these hacks to your ROMs. This is a Windows-based program where you just select the files to patch, and name any output using the Windows file menu system. It also takes care of the extra data needed at the end of Sonic 2 hacks. When creating a patch, it will automatically separate it, and it will prompt you to add it to the ROM during application of the patch. This will be added to the Windows version of SonED, but I've made it a standalone program for now so you don't have to wait. I hope you all find it useful. And on a side-note, as you probably already know, Sonic Team Junior left us a few weeks ago, and are now hosted on ssntails.org under the domain www.srb2.org. The section has finally been moved since it isn't in use anymore, so I thought I'd mention it incase anyone was wondering. Woo, it's late... For now, enjoy the new additions! - Stealth (10-10-2001) It's on the Area51 Messageboard: About Asking SEGA *Insert Questions Here* Please take the time to read this in full, as it is in the best interest of everyone here. While there is the possibility that the effects of not following this won't be THAT bad, they WILL be bad enough. And then, they could likely be MUCH worse. As of now, the SSRG does not condone these practices, and will not be responsible for anything that happens to anyone who tries them. Furthermore, if any harm comes to the SSRG as a result of anyone doing these sorts of things, there will be consequences. You have to bear in mind, not everyone has the same state of mind as we do, and as many should know, trying to talk to someone when there is such a great difference in opinion is a very bad thing. Thank you all for your time. - Stealth (10-4-2001) If you examine "basic.lev" and the numbered tiles in \BMP you see that the level can be changed using a hex editor. - Tristan Penman (10-2-2001) Well, the exit of the SLEEP project was sort of abrupt, but apparantly the author is serious about it. I've asked for a copy of the old one that I can put on the Utilities Archive, but we'll have to see how that turns out. I've done some cleaning up on the page, if you can't tell :P. Obviously, since the SLEEP page was deleted, I've taken down it's link. I've also deleted two other sections: The extra codes section (which was just a mistake that stayed up for a LONG time), and the Custom Level Archive, who's maintainer has apparantly disappeared. The data from the CLA is being integrated into the ROM Hack Archive, which will become THE overall Hack Archive for the SSRG. Also, I've hit the messageboards and links sections. In the messageboard section, I've corrected the link to the REAL Area51 messageboard, and moved the link to Sonic Hacking Community 2 below SHC1. Also, the CLA's board is as dead as the site itself, so it has been replaced with the Sonic 2 Beta messageboard, which has been waiting a little too long to be featured here. Another addition has been made too, the Sonic FanGame HQ's yaBB board, which is said to become the new official board once things get settled in. As for the links section, I've deleted 5 broken links (3 of which are related to SSNTails.org, who's content doesn't even match the description anymore really, but it's link will stay up since the site is still there. I think AJ has stopped hosting altogether, unless it's something he REALLY likes). The Icecap Zone (SSNTails.org), Sonic R Hacking (SSNTails.org) Wolf's ROMs, Saxman's ROMs (SSNTails.org), and the official homepage of the Sonic and Knuckles Collection editor are all missing now. I also fixed the link to SAGE, and changed it's description to reflect it's twice-a-year nature. On another note (although not overall SSRG related), if you're wondering about the status of the Windows port of SonED, it's coming out quite well. I'm learning more about Windows programming, and if nothing else, the interface will be superior to that of it's DOS counterpart. I'm also concidering looking for ways to add a few new features, but they may not make it before the first release. It's going well enough that yes, I think that SonED will move strictly to Windows now. It's definitely something to look foreward to if you like these things. And one final thing; The SSRG is going through some reorganization in hopes of better serving all of our viewers. Included in this change is a possible redesign of the main page. I've thought it over, and I think it best if I hold a poll and open myself to viewer comments on the design I propose, which can be seen at: http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/newdesign.htm It may take on that design, It may keep the current one, or it may even get a completely new one. Let me know what you think by voting and replying to the message I've created about it on the General Discussion board on Organized Chaos (There was actually no board REALLY suited for this, so I figured I'd use mine so others won't get mad or something :P) Please view the post and leave your comments! I'll be waiting to hear from you! - Stealth | |
