  • SFGHQ has been moved to sfghq.emulationzone.org. The DNS error reported earlier has been cleared.

  • David Declerck has joined the SSRG as a subhostee for his "ChaoSaX" tools, and as a member of our staff for upcoming projects. I see good things in our future..

  • For those of you who don't know already, I'm working on a new hacking program called SHWP-II. Basically, it's SHWP without everything hard-coded. Instead of having everything hard-coded into separate EXEs for different games, it's a single hacking program that uses user-editable "templates." A template tells SHWP-II what editors to use for the different games, and, if applicable, extra data necessary for that editor (such as palettes for a palette editor). Currently, SHWP-II Demo 9 has support for the following:

    Standard level select editing
    Palette editing
    Playlist editing
    S3-style special stage editing

The ROM identification routine will currently only recognize Genesis / Mega Drive ROMs, however, so a template for a Game Gear, SMS, or 32X ROM will not work.

Download SHWP-II at my website, http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/gerbil.

  • I've created a patcher for Knuckles' Chaotix to enable stage select and debug in the ROM, and it's available here. This will automatically de-interleave interleaved ROMs, and will work on both known dumps of the game. And if for some reason it fails (odd things happen..) you can manually patch your ROM with these, but it MUST be de-interleaved. (Most likely, your ROM is interleaved unless you fixed that yourself).

  • For the past month of so, I have been receiving complaints about Stealth and his management of SSRG. At the same time, I have been receiving emails of support for some of the things Stealth has done. People are asking me to do something, while on the other hand people are telling me that Stealth’s options are limited. What’s your opinion? Is Stealth doing a good job or a poor job? Support your claim with evidence, examples, etc. Limit your comments to ONE email message per person. Do NOT send me a dozen email messages: write your ideas down into one email message. Take a few days if you have to.

This is merely a probe to investigate into a series of complaints. If there is a problem, I will step in. If there isn’t, then nothing needs to be done. Try to get your letters in by the end of the month of May.
