August 2001 News

(8-29-2001)
  • Hi, everyone!
I'd like to wish a happy birthday to the SSRG, and thank all of the major contributors for helping it grow as much as it has. I remember when it first started out, a single page, black background, divided into 6 or so sections with little bits of info.

I'm going to miss Andy and Saxman, and I'm sure all of you will too, and I hope that I'll be able to lead the SSRG successfully toward it's 10th anniversary.

  • I would like to announce that today, Aug 28, 2001, marks the fifth year anniversary of the Emulation Zone! It's incredible how far the site has gone from a mere sub-section off a personal web site to a web site run by over 30 people! Instead of rambling on, I will cut to the chase and mention that we have prepared a few surprised surprises for everyone!

First off, Tristan of TSSZ.com has prepared an audio documentary of what the site has endured and accomplished in its five year history.. You can listen to it at:
    http://radio.emulationzone.org/audioarchive/EmuZone5.rm

Second, I would like to mention that we have prepared a text document outlining the site's history. It's not fancy like Tristan documentary, or as exciting, but it will do.
    http://www.emulationzone.org/aboutus/history.htm

Third, Sonikku and I have recorded a little theme song about SSRG. You can download the song at
    http://www.emulationzone.org/ssrg_theme.zip

Fourth, I have prepared a closing message to everyone explaining why I am retiring, what will happen to the site and what I am going to do from then on. You can view that at
    http://www.emulationzone.org/aboutus/retirement.htm

Finally, I would like to invite everyone to the feedback board to post their comments about the 'Zone and it's 5 years of existence. Feel free to share any persona tails or feelings you would like to share. You can access the message board at
    http://disc.server.com/Indices/35357.html

If you would rather send them to me personally instead, my email address is wacko@emulationzone.org

    Thanks everyone! It's been fun!

  • If you have downloaded s2me then you would have noticed that the levels would crash. When i had created the extra data i had goofed up. Only half of it was there but i fixed it and tested it several times and it worked. As a bonus you dont have tocheck the crc! WOW! I would like to note that Andy and Saxman will be missed. Things wont be same around here without them.

  • The things that have been passing along about my retirement -- they're all true. I am stepping down after nearly 3 years of commitment to SSRG. I thank each and everyone of you that supported me. It's been fun, but I believe my work here is done. I hope that people can try to make the same rate of commitment I've attempted to make towards SSRG -- mabey a bigger rate of commitment even.

Where am I going to now? Well, for starters, I will be producing my own music now. I'm currently trying to get some demos to be broadcasted over Seven. I will send demos out to anyone else who would be willing to host my recordings over their own radio stations too. Currently, I'm 'writing' new material and trying to piece it all together, but no major recordings. My major recording jobs are demos I've made covering other songs -- some include "Tequila", "The Heart of Rock and Roll", "Yakety Sax", and several others I'm working on.

To leave some advice before I go -- the world is a small place. With people bunched together, we sometimes hate being around others and do things we know are wrong. We fight and even do some very immature things. If there is anything I've worked the hardest at, it's keeping piece among the community. To save some of the effort in the future, try to respect one another as I've done to all of you. Fighting over things will get you nowhere.

    It's been fun. Bye all!

  • Just the other day, I was browsing around to see how things were going. I made my way to the Sonic Hacking Message board and left a msg for a promising new developer. i then received a response about a Sonic 2 gamma(or whatever) that 'I' claimed to have?

i investigated this and discovered that someone had been using my ezboard account. probably my friend who was giving me a push in the right direction with the programming of S.L.E.E.P. (he's the only one who would have the password I used, because our joint web account used the same one).

i've been offended by the negative comments towards myself and in some cases my project because of this. just be careful before you verbally abuse others.

  • Its finally here. S2me is here. But if you have been living under a rock and dont know what s2me is then this might help. S2ME is a major hack of sonic 2, The levels are different, the pallets were changed even the music has been edited. Well why are you listening to me, when you could have already been to the page. So check it out, you will be satisfied.

  • Ok to clear up any confusion ive decided that my new alies is striker, my old names were sk8er and tails prower. This will prevent any more confusion about who i am. Also my hack of sonic 2(sonic 2 millenium edition) will be getting hosted by SSRG. We dont know when but its for certain.

  • Well well.. things start to degrade again. Incase you hadn't noticed, someone's trying to spread a virus on the Sonic Hacking Community Message Board. While in theory only deserving people'd get hit, in practice, there were a few innocent casualties. Myself included. What this means is that my system had been wiped clean, and I had to restore my projects from slightly outdated backups. I've lost a bit of progress, but it's not something I can't catch back up on. Looks like I've got some work to do.

All that is an interesting prelude to today.. Today I turn 22. I sure don't feel like it, but apparantly that's how long I've been around. If things remain relatively good, I may still be here in another 20 years too.

  • Hi everyone sk8er here(formaly known as tails). I'm in the process of giving the save state archive a face lift. I already have finished and uploaded the splash screen, sonic1, sonic2, and sonic 1 GG sections. Also i will stop accepting hacked save states. So dont waste your time and send in hacked save states. Also if you include a picture
your save state will have a better chance of being added to the archive.

  • Bart Trzynadlowski has sent-up a Genesis save state hacking reference. You can access it here. It covers the existing formats for the popular console emulators. This paper should come in handy for those that like to hack around in a savestate file.

  • If anyone happens to have recorded the Sonic Adveture 2 TV ad on tape, please email me, Andy. Sorry for the confusion earlier.

    - Andy

  • Hi everyone, Andy here. In the coming weeks, the SSRG will be under some reorganization. This reorganization is being done to cutout the clutter that has been building-up on SSRG and to fortify our core values. As a result, sections may be removed, added or merged. I will keep you informed of any changes that are made.

In the mean time, I will say that we will be adding 1 new section shortly. Hopefully this weekend.
