General

  • Debug mode

  • Different animals come out of robots

  • Minor graphic glitches here and there

  • Sonic’s movement is slightly more sluggish (and this is not because the Beta ROM is slow itself). You can manoeuvre him out of hitting the 3 worms in Toxic Caves for example.
  • No demos



Title Screen
  • No music/sound
  • Options menu cannot be accessed
  • Bouncing on bumper animation plays anyway even if Start button is pressed at SEGA logo
  • Lava Powerhouse can be accessed by pressing B+Start, Showdown can be accessed by pressing A+Start, but C+Start doesn't go to The Machine (it goes to Toxic Caves instead)

 


Toxic Caves

Misc

Six worms appear when you get the 1st emerald.
Sonic dies when he hits the water (it was slime originally)

Graphics:

Water animation is different
Different text messages (e.g. no messages when Sonic sits there doing nothing)

Sounds:

Music is different
No splash sound at start

Sounds not implemented:

  • Hitting sewer plugs

  • Draining slime from emerald container

  • Splash sounds


Things that sound different:
  • Brown thing

  • Ring

  • Fanfare when all targets hit

  • Danger sound for falling down the side of flippers and straight past flippers (Music also speeds up when this happens)

  • Spindash

  • Hitting enemies

  • Emerald sound

  • Plays music when bridge is switched

  • “Sewer Time” sound

  • Sewer warp doesn’t make a sound after teleporting Sonic

  • Sound is made when Sonic goes into loop with 2 worms.

  • Music and sound FX when you go into the cart

  • Boss makes different sound

  • Level complete music (that damn Sonic theme again!)


 


Lava Powerhouse

Misc:

  • Steam valves don’t push you up nearly as much – you can easily head back down again

  • It takes 5 hits, not 3 to “unlock” the door (instead of “busting” it), and you must do it by getting in the shooter thing

  • “Ferrons” are called “Forebots”


Text:

Messages that aren’t in the level:
  • “BUSTING DOOR…”

Messages that are different:
  • “NOT YET…” instead of “BUST DOORS FIRST”

Sounds:

Things that sound different:
  • Shooter thing

  • “Light all lights for extra multiplier” thing

  • “Total Action” bumpers

  • “Great Escape” sound


 


The Machine

Misc:

  • Music is Showdown’s music

  • Level cannot be accessed from title screen

  • Bonus Stage can be reached without collecting ALL the tings!!

  • Palette is slightly different for objects
