Introduction
This page is a collection of intriguing, mysterious and downright goofy infromation about the (official) Sonic the Hedgehog line of games. It deals with everything from Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System to Sonic Adventure on SEGA Dreamcast.
It's basically an archive of weird STH data the author has collected since 1998, when Andre Alex Dirk had shown the world his interesting Sonic 2 cartridge. Most of the info here is exclusive unless it was "borrowed" by others. Meaning there is stuff here you won't find anywhere else!
The original authors of the finding have been listed where I myself am not the author.

Sonic CD (Page 2)

Messed up palettes

If you go into Metallic Madness Good Future, you'll sooner or later find a mine on a three-dimensional tetter-totter. When you step on it, the mine lands on you. So, have you ever noticed that it is incorrectly colored? The mine has shade where it was supposed to have light. Here:

Incorrect Spiked Ball

Mistake? No...it is part of a bigger problem. Read on.

Correct Spiked Ball

Same thing from Metallic Madness Bad Future. To compare.

I wouldn't mind if it was the only 'rotten thing' in Sonic CD. But no. There is more.

Incorrect Good Plant

Normal? Wrong. It is a plant from Palmtree Panic Good Future. If you look at it carefully, you'll notice that there is water in place of the shade.

Correct Bad Plant

Again, to compare. From Bad Future.

Why are those things so horribly deformed? Well, in order to understand that, you must accept the following simple rule:

Good Future is nothing more than a Present with minor gameplay and major graphics and palette changes.

Keeping that in mind, the rest is easy to figure out. All the objects were 'exported' to Good Future from Present. Good Future uses a different color palette. All the objects were remapped to it, except for the things mentioned above.

Water on Good Future plants...is that wrong? What if it was supposed to be that way?

Well, if you ask SEGA about it, they'll probably say that yes, 'we have all planned the Deformed Ball and Bad Good Plant'. But, I would doubd that. Using different color palette (picking up all the wrong colors from where there were supposed the correct ones), those objects turn out to be...well, too weird to be planned. (The easiest way to understand this is- nothing else than that Hidden Palace hangover. Turning on debug, you run into some Oil Ocean objects. Because OOZ uses a different color palette, they are weird.)

So, why is there water on Bad Good Plants? Let's say that in the PPZ Present, the plant picks color of the shade from address 00. In PPZ Good Future, 00 is water, but the plant still picks up the color from that very same address. So we have water in place of the shade.

If you don't understand the above information, read it again. ^_^
