November 2001 News

(12-25-2001)
  • Here comes a christmas news blast for you all: First some news I missed a little while back. You probably read this on SHC, but if you did, too bad :P. Another Sonic hacking tool has been announced, although it's said to be canned. The author says that he may potentially continue his work with it, but it's not a guarantee. This editor is for Sonic 1 (hense the name "S1EDIT"), and currently only modifies level layout for Green Hills 1-3. You can have a look at it here

Also, an update to a very interesting hack was released not long ago. It's called "Sonic 2 Delta", and is a hack of our Sonic 2 pre-release. You can find info and the download here, although it's in portuguese, so you'll need to use a translator like altavista's Babelfish.

Many new hacking notes for Sonic 2 have been added to The Sonic Hacking Community, just check their updates for info.

Also, lastly, Organized Chaos has recieved an update, gaining a new messageboard to replace the crappy old EZBoard, and an update to SonED for Windows has been made, sporting the addition of the level and object editors. This version is shaping up much better than it's DOS counterpart, and more people will be able to use it, as some systems have problems with DOS. If you're into this editor, take a look, I think you'll be pleased.

Finally, I may have missed mentioning some things, and I'm sorry for the lack of updates on my part recently. If you have any news to report, don't hesitate to send me a mail or other sort of message.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

  • Sonic 2 Millennium Edition: Christmas has been released! This is version 0.76 and is more of a special edition rather than a version nearer the final. Every level is now all iced up and covered in snow! Download and enjoy!

  • There isn't much talk about hacking the Sonic Adventure games, so I thought I would post this information (even if it is a month old, more is still being found).

MangoMan has found some unused voice clips as well as some weird lines of text in the GDROM. As this information takes up too much space to put here, I have to link to the respective pages (hope this is ok!).

    Unused Speech 1
    Unused Speech 2
    Text in 1st_read.bin

Some of the unused speech lines include telling Sonic (?) how to defeat a fire breathing enemy, about Leon the Chameleon, and how to transform into Super Sonic! The original ADX sound files (and one MP3) are avaliable at the above links.

  • Took forever but i finaly finished the palletes and layout for chemical plant AKA bio speedway zone in S2ME. it so long because we were having problems apllying the palletes because of a error in one of our hacking tools, but now its here , you can get s2me .75 at the s2me site. you wont be disapointed.

  • Today the S2B Hacking Guide finally recieves an update! It seems that Nayr's account has been malfunctioning for the past five months (and still is), so until those matters are cleared up, all of his files will have to be run through me for uploading, which may take a little longer than it would if he still had direct access. The admin have been notified, and action will be taken in time, but we can't know how much time that is.

Be sure to check the section out, he's made ALOT of nice changes and additions.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2Z has now been updated with a beta copy of Demo 3. Although this release is mostly just a bugfix release, there is now some work done on the Aquatic Ruins Zone Act 1, as well and the almost complete palettes for the rest of the game. Enjoy ^_^

If you haven't played Sonic 2Z, I'd hope you try it, as it should exceed your expectations of what a level hack should be. With the great challenging level design, nice looking palettes, and the fact that the completed sections are very close to bugfree, it just might revolutionize the way you play hacks. (Yeah right)
